Second class of Pedagogy :)

  Assalammualaikum and hi guys! 😉

  On 28 February I have Pedagogy class on morning, I should come early on that class but unfortunately I'm having a stomach pain. It's it not a usual stomach pain but it is a pain where my stomach "masuk angin", I guess it's because I putting the fan at the bottom of my leg and I let it for the whole night. Guys, trust me don't ever try like that anymore. It's really pain! 
  So back to the topic, on that day our lecturer have teach us about the "10 things that student want the teacher to do". During this class on today, Dr are also asking the question to the student and through these question and this make me easier to understand what are the student need from their teacher even though I'm coming late to the class. Sorry Dr. T_T

Before the class end, our lecturer give us an article on reading the "Totto-chan, the Little Girl at the Window ". She said if we have free time we can red on this story. When I was look on the page and I find out that it has 95 pages (on my tablet). That's quite a lot. I think I need some time for me because I need time to read just because to understand what are the story are trying to understand. Well, I'm a slow learner and I need time to understand. T_T Please understand me... But I hope there is a cartoon version for this story, it is easier for me to understand better. Hehe... 



Not just reading on the story, our lecturer are also giving us a question on '10 things that students do not want educator to do'. There's a lot actually but I 'll list down the 10 for my readers :)

'10 things that students do not want the educators to do'
1. Please don't underestimate students
  There are teacher who underestimating student ability, they think that student intelligence is that kind of low and always don't give a chance to a student. If teacher doesn't believe in student's intelligence, this can bring to student themselves not confidence in their intelligence also. As a teacher, it is a must on giving chance to the student so that they can prove and see how far are their intelligence. 
  For example, a teacher giving questions to student to discuss together to let them built their knowledge and giving some intelligence answer. If a student cannot understand, teacher try to give some time to the student or ask all of the student in a classroom on how to answer it.

2. Didn't communicate to the student
  Some of the teacher doesn't want to communicate with the student just because they think they are the teacher, they don't want to talk it. It is wrong for a teacher to think like that because student's second home will be at school and their teacher are considering as their parents. Student are hoping that teacher can improving their communication skills between student and teacher so that in a classroom, every student will be learning in a happy environment. 
  Due to the technology is high nowadays, having a communication in social media such as Whatsapp or Telegram also can. So when student have problem in homework or others, they can ask teacher at social apps.

3. Do aware on attire, please don't wear something inappropriate
  Everyday student will be facing teacher at the school no matter in class or outside of the class. That is the reason why teacher's attire must be concern fully because it will be the inspiration to the student. As a teacher the cutting of the cloth must be professional, the shoe must be cover the leg and minimize the cloth pattern. Some of the teacher wearing the skirt that is too short (above knee), wear the cloth that is too tight until show the body shape and just simply wearing slipper to class and teach. 
  This will bring unfair for the student because the student are following the school's rule meanwhile the teacher can simply wear whatever they want. At home, student view parents as their role-model and meanwhile at the school, student view teacher as their main-role model.

4. Punishment that is too limit
  It is true that when a student did something wrong, teacher should have the power on punishing them. But when the punishment is gone too far, then it is wrong and teacher should know about that. Sometimes, teacher need to understand on how to apply a punishment on student without disturbing their mentality. Teacher should avoid on being punishment too reactive such as punishing the student too much or hurting the student with words or punishment that can bring a student come to class with not pleasant. In this case, teacher should also avoid on giving punishment that is unfair. Sometimes when the teacher doesn't like certain student, they will find a way to punish them just to make themselves feel satisfy. 
  This kind of punishment will influence the student's mentality and will be low confidence on attending the class. The other punishment that student doesn't want to be punish is standing under the sun for a long time and hold their time rest or even doodle their face with marker pen.

5. Lose temper? Don't throw at us.
  Teacher always tend to be lose temper in a classroom, this situation always happen in school when a teacher can't keep their emotion and show their negative emotion to the student. We know the fact that on someday, we will having a bad day and it is hard to maintain the calm in a class while facing with kinds of student. If a teacher is having a bad day, it is good for teacher and student also that step out of the room and classroom and from the situation and try to take a deep breath.



6. Sit down during class
  This is what teacher always doing in class, teaching while sitting? It's not an appropriate action for a teacher teaching while sitting because student are expected teacher to stand or walk around while teaching in a whole period. Sitting while teaching too long can bring the teacher to be more lazy in teaching, excepted that a teacher is sick and that is excluded.
  Always be remember that as a teacher, it is a must for us to be professional in teaching.

7. Don't just use book, use something else
  I know that teacher must follow the instruction to teach from the book, but not all must teaching directly from the book. This is not only will bring student to boring but it also make the student to be lose in somewhere. Because student need a lot of chance to practice and do experiment with their new skills. Mostly student won't learn anything on the book unless the teacher are letting them to experience or practice with their new skills. Not all the children love to read on book, many of them prefer doing some kinesthetic things like experimenting and role-playing.

8. Being unfair
  In a classroom if a student doesn't follow teacher instruction teacher tend to punish the whole class but not on that specific student. It is not fair for the student who didn't did wrong. If teacher are punish the whole class, the student might end up angry on teacher and it will lose their trust on teacher. Teacher should be fair to student and think twice before punishing the whole class. This can lead to student think that this teacher are being unprofessional.

    

9. Not listening to us (student)
  Student are listening to teacher but mostly teacher are not listening to the student.  Sometimes when student trying to make an explanation to teacher, they just ignore it. As a teacher, we must listen to the student because they also have a feeling too. Try to ask students to write a letter about anything they want or share, anything also can. Make sure teacher will response to the letter, this can bring them to liking the teacher even more.



10. Using grades as weapons
  Teacher are likely to use grades to control the student such as give point for the participation, deduct marks for behave badly and give zero marks because of late submitting assignment or the assignment are not relevant. It's feels like teacher are threaten student just to controlling the class. As a teacher, we shouldn't use this way to control a student. This can lead student to be even stress and hate you even more. Teacher should use grades for their marks but not for teacher own.
